Rarely do we think that “idol worship” is any real threat to our lives because we think of an idol as only some sort of inanimate statue or image. Today, God’s Word reminds us that an idol is any kind of false god, that is, anything we look to as the highest good in our life. We build our own idols or false gods whenever we seek comfort, fulfillment, or safety in the things or preparations of our own making. But when it comes to salvation and our final deliverance, only the one, true God of the Scriptures is able to help us.
